Wanted

Published by xboxgamer under 360 Demos Edit This

I haven’t seen the movie yet but I plan to rent it soon. As for the game, I just recently finished playing the demo for this game and found it to be not too shabby for a movie game. Usually movie games suck beyond belief but this game was actually worth playing. It’s not the best FPS game but it was fun. The gameplay reminded me of a faster paced version of Rainbow Six Vegas as taking cover is very essential in this game.

As for the length of the demo, it’s not too long but it does give you a good feel of the gameplay. Overall, I’d say this game shows some potential and it’s probably one of the best recent movie games I’ve played so far. One of the flaws is probably the lack of online play though although from what the demo showed, there are 3 difficulties so that might justify the price tag.

Recent demos #1

Published by xboxgamer under 360 Demos Edit This

Ok I think I might start giving recent demo summaries. For list #1 I will be covering Halo Wars & Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. (both of which are worth checking out by the way). Ok I’ll start off with Halo Wars, the infamous Halo RTS game for the Xbox 360. The demo lets you savor it quite well and proves that the 360 can handle an RTS. I was actually shocked at how well it was pulled off as normally console RTS games are not good at all. If you’re familiar with RTS games the learning curve is not that bad, you just have to remember that it’s not WarCraft!

My favorite part was running over enemies with my Warthog unit. As for the difficulty, I played it on normal and it was fair. Although like all RTS, the real challenge will probably lurk online. Overall I’d say Halo Wars is a solid RTS and will probably not disappoint you if you’re looking for a good Halo themed RTS. As for H.A.W.X., I’m not a big fan of flight games to be honest. However, I did find this game to be somewhat fun. It seems to target both the flight sim fanatic as well as the curious gamer who’s not really familiar with this genre as the learning curve is not that bad. And if you’re wondering how it is compared to the first Blazing Angels, I personally liked H.A.W.X. more, but keep in mind that they cover different time periods as well as goals. H.A.W.X. is obviously more futuristic. I suggest you get the demo for yourself to get a better idea as these flight games are not my strong point.

Another demo worth checking out is the one for Afro Samurai which I did not mention in this post but is still fun as well.

Skate 2

Published by xboxgamer under 360 Demos Edit This

I didn’t really like the first Skate nor any of the other recent skateboarding games, however Skate 2 was a lot more appealing to me. It brought back the good memories of Tony Hawk Underground mixed with some Skate elements. The demo is currently out right now so it’s worth getting although it’s quite short. But it does let you get a decent idea of how the gameplay has changed. Getting off the skateboard is necessary in some segments as you have to get through some obstacles at times which expands the gameplay a bit as you’re not just skating. Also, if you have a buddy over while playing the demo you can play that party mode which looked fun.

Overall, if you liked the first Skate you’ll probably like this one as well and if you weren’t fond of the first one then you might actually like this one as it’s a significant improvement although I don’t think I’ll be getting the retail game as I still wasn’t convinced. I’m more of an action/adventure person, not much of a skateboard/sports game fan.

RE5 demo coming soon!

Published by xboxgamer under 360 Demos Edit This

On January 26th, the Resident Evil 5 demo will be out in North America! It’s been out in Japan for a while so it was about time it made it’s way here. I’m looking forward to playing it online via co-op. I actually played the Japanese version before and thought the game was good however I felt that the AI that’s on your side was rather mediocre. It felt like a human player was really necessary, just like in Left 4 Dead. In the easier difficulty you can probably get away with playing the game with the standard AI but once it gets tougher you definitely need a competent human by your side to help you complete the level.

As for the full game, it comes out on March 13, 2009 I believe. So if you’re a huge RE fan, it might be worth preordering early.
